Monsters and Misfits

Hello,
I decided to research and write about mental hospitals/asylums because of their inherent mysteriousness and chill-inducing history of different patient treatments. It was extremely difficult for me to write these pieces in the genres that I did, or any genre for that matter. I’m sure many people can relate to having a hard time getting started when the options available are practically limitless. This website describes the journey of a researcher/journalist that is visiting Bog Brook Asylum in order to research how people, when they believe there are monsters to be feared, can create the monsters when there are none to be seen in a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy. This researcher is specifically following the story of a patient named Maria Hope. The researcher plans to interview former staff in order to see whether the patients of Bog Brook are truly in need and deserving of the treatment they receive. This is important as it provides insight into the complex order of events that lead a fearful person to create monsters when there actually are none and becoming the monster in the process.
